Southside comes up short at Russellville

Southside’s season came to an end against Russellville in the first round of the Class 5A state baseball playoffs.
The No. 6 Golden Tigers posted a 12-4 win in Game 1, followed by an 11-1 victory in the nightcap.
The Panthers (19-19) led 1-0 in the opener through two innings in the opener before Russellville scored seven straight runs. Southside got within 7-3 in the top of the fifth until the Golden Bears put across five runs in the bottom of the inning to take control.
The Panthers’ lone run in Game 2 came in the bottom of the first on Tytan Rich’s score off an error. The Golden Bears then put across five straight runs to end the game after five innings.
For the series for Southside, Dre’sen Champagne went 4-for-6 with two doubles and a run scored; Kutter Jonson went 2-for-4 with two doubles; Conner Driskell went 2-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored; Rich went 2-or-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored and Trey Frachiseur and Angelo Alberghina each had two hits.
