Southside finishes runner-up at area volleyball tournament

The Southside High volleyball team finished second at the Class 6A, Area 13 Tournament last Tuesday (Oct. 12) at Springville.
The Lady Panthers (45-12) defeated Oxford, 25-12, 25-10, 25-7, and lost to Springville, 27-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-25, 7-25.
Southside qualified for the North Super Regional at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. The Lady Panthers open the tournament on Wednesday, October 20 against Mountain Brook at 9 a.m.

Southside wrapped up its regular season schedule with a tri-match sweep last Monday (Oct. 11). The Lady Panthers defeated Jacksonville, 25-23, 25-21 and Chelsea, 25-23, 25-21. For Southside, Kathryn Webb had 35 assists and four digs; Hannah Rogers had 17 digs and two kills; Ziniah Hardy had 16 digs and five kills; Macey Herren (pictured above) had 11 kills, nine digs, four aces and two blocks; Rachel Wilson had 11 kills, seven digs and two blocks; Keelan Vice had 10 kills and seven digs; Ella Knowlton had nine kills and two blocks; and Rylie Kitchens had seven digs.

Southside swept Faith Christian, 25-10. 25-10. 25-8 on October 7. For the Lady Panthers, Macey Herren and Keelan Vice each had 10 kills, while Ziniah Hardy added four. Kathryn Webb distributed 20 assists. Vice and Hardy each had three aces. Hardy had six digs, followed by Herren with five and Vice with three.
