Ms. Kathlynn Fadley first opened Physicians Apothecary in 1948 inside the Noojin Building on Chestnut Street when it housed nearly every physician in town and served as a one-stop shop for Gadsden’s medical needs.

While the now torn-down Noojin Building is only a memory for long-time residents, nostalgic Physicians Apothecary remains Gadsden’s neighborhood pharmacy.

Bought in 1982 by pharmacist Danny Guest, Physicians Apothecary then stood on Forrest Avenue, where Fadley moved it after just two years in the Noojin Building.

The business is still owned by the Guests today, daughters Abby Causey and Katie Owens working alongside their father as full time pharmacists.

Guest’s wife, Donna Guest, also works at the pharmacy while son Ben does the store’s advertising.

Guest said the pharmacy’s motto has always been, “Here when you need us,” proving true as they’ve only been closed four days since he bought the place.

During the unforgettable Blizzard of ’93, Physicians Apothecary was forced to close because Guest said they couldn’t get to it.

Three days later they opened for four hours hours – until the weather told them to shut it down again.

The two locations in downtown Gadsden and at Noccalula Falls are open until 11 p.m. each night through Saturday, and until 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Both Physicians Apothecary locations offer prescription delivery and drive-through service is available at the downtown Gadsden store.

“Like our motto says, we’re open when you need us,” said Guest.
