Gadsden City remained in the postseason picture with a 4-3 victory over Class 7A, Area 4 rival Grissom on Wed-nesday, Apr. 10, at the Gadsden Sports Complex.
The Titans can make the state playoffs if they defeated Grissom last night (Apr. 11) in Huntsville and won two out of three games against Sparkman next week.
Sam Day scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning for the winning run.
The Titans’ Baylor Partridge and the Tigers’ Evan Steckmesser competed in an old-fashioned pitching duel for most of the game. Partridge gave up only one hit in four and two-third innings, while GCHS got only six hits off Steckmesser.
Winning pitcher Braxton Parrish pitched two and two-third innings of one-hit relief for the Titans.
“This was a good game and a big area win for us,” said GCHS head coach Blake Bone. “We got a strong pitching today and our defense played well, especially in the out-field. We’ve played through some adversity and injuries this season, and this was a big win against a strong Grissom team.”
Austin Brewer, who went 3-for-3 at the plate, got things started for the Titans with a double in the first inning. He later scored on a passed ball. Grissom tied the game with an unearned run in the second inning.
Gadsden City added runs in the fourth and fifth innings with Grissom tying the game each time. Parrish retired the side in the seventh for the win.
