The Matt Scott era officially kicks off tonight (Aug. 30) with Gadsden City hosting Florence.

After a successful tenure at Hueytown, Scott was hired to replace Joe Billingsley, the only coach the Titans have ever known.

Last year, Gadsden City visited Florence and won, 30-28, to improve to 2-0 all-time in the series. The only other meeting was in the second round of the 2009 season – a 21-7 Titans victory.

In four seasons with the Golden Gophers, Scott compiled a 35-13 mark and made the Class 6A state playoffs in every season except his first. In 2010 and ‘11, respectively, Hueytown went 11-2 and 13-1.

In 2011, Scott coached Jameis Winston, who was ranked the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the nation. Winston signed to play with Florida State University and will start the first game for the Seminoles this season as a redshirt freshman.

Editor’s note: attempts to reach Scott for an interview were unsuccessful as of press time.
