Troup Ices Glencoe

Haley Troup nailed a 3-point shot with 4:24 remaining in the fourth quarter to give Southside a 6-point lead over rival Glencoe. The Yellow Jackets fought their way back to within 2 points, but were forced to foul – sending Troup to the line three times in the final minute of the game. The seventh grader made 6/6 foul shots to seal a 64-54 victory for the Panthers.

Southside led after all the breaks.

The visiting Panthers led 22-20 at the end of the first quarter, 37-36 at halftime and 44-42 at the end of the third quarter.

Despite scoring only one basket. the Yellow Jackets led most of the third quarter. The Glencoe defense limited the Panthers to only three baskets.

Both teams spent plenty of time on the charity stripe. Southside shot 16/22 (72%) while Glencoe made 18/27 (66%).

Troup led the Panthers with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Kelcey Cole added 14 points and Katie Mitchell chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Glencoe was led by Jordan Sims with 13 points. Katie Cooper followed with 10 points and Sarah Wallace had 8.

“We have a young team and we have to learn to hold our leads,” Glencoe head coach John Blackwell said. “We played good basketball tonight, but our inexperience showed. I look for a great season out of this team.”

Glencoe (2-1) hosts Ashville tonight (11/29) and visits Hokes Bluff Friday (12/2).
