Westbrook ace helps Team USA Baseball win U15 World Confederation Cup


Westbrook Christian so-phomore Samuel Dutton of Westbrook Christian and his USA Baseball 15U team won the World Baseball and Softball Confederation U15 World Cup in David, Panama, with a 7-1 victory over Panama last Sunday (Aug. 19).
Dutton pitched 8.1 innings total for the tournament without allowing a run. He allowed only four hits while striking out nine and walking four.
Dutton picked up the win against China in the first game of pool play and later posted a victory over Japan to send Team USA to the championship game.
Dutton earned the All-Tournament Award of lowest ERA (0.00) of all pitchers in the tournament.
Dutton, who committed to LSU in July, went 5-2-1 this past season with a 1.21 earned run average.
In 46 innings, he struck out 72 while issuing only 11 walks and surrendering just 28 hits and eight earned runs. He pitched a no-hitter against Vincent in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
At the plate, Dutton batted .494 with 38 hits, 30 RBI, 24 runs scored and seven doubles.
Dutton helped the Warriors post a 27-9 record, win the area championship and qualify for a berth in the Class 2A state quarterfinals, where Westbrook lost in extra innings in the deciding game 3 against top-ranked Mars Hill Bible.
Dutton was the only freshman to make the ASWA All-State first team in any classification this past season. He was also named to the All-Messenger first team.
