The Ider Hornets solidified their playoff position as a No. 3 seed after a dominant performance in all phases of Friday’s 28-0 win over the visiting Westbrook Christian Warriors.
The Hornets jumped out in front in the early going and never looked back in a game that decided the lower two playoff seeds in Class 2A, Region 6.
They struck first blood when senior fullback Sam McKay punched in a 3-yard touchdown run just over a minute into the game.
Logan Townson split the uprights with the extra-point attempt and was 4-for-4 in the win.
That gave the Hornets’ defense all the help it would need for the night.
Ider suffocated the Warrior offense, stopping numerous plays behind the line of scrimmage while keeping the visitors off of the scoreboard.
The Hornets stretched their lead to 14 points when Alex Brown broke free for a 25-yard dash to the end zone with 5:38 left in the first half.
Westbrook looked to begin a comeback run when the Warriors took the ball to start to start the second half, but Chase Townson had other plans when he picked off a pass and took it back 30 yards for a touchdown less than a minute into the third quarter.
Junior tailback Jacob Higdon later wrapped up Ider’s scoring for the evening with a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make the score 28-0.
On 29 rushing attempts, Westbrook finished with minus-29 yards on the ground and minus-3 yards of total offense for the game.
For the Warriors, Jackson Cox completed 6 of 9 passes for 46 yards. P.J. Wells had three catches for 22 yards.
Court Coley had eight tackles, followed by Jackson Lutrell and David Barnett with six each. Luttrell and Michael Lake Thompson each had a sack.
Westbrook hosts Hokes Bluff this week before traveling to Sulligent in the first round on Nov. 10.
