Jacksonville State University junior and 2019 Westbrook Christian graduate Jackson Luttrell was one of 11 players recently recognized as part of the ASUN Conference’s 2022 Football All-Academic Team.
The team, voted on by the league’s academic advisors and sports information directors, recognizes the top vote getters from a pool of student-athletes that carry a cumulative 3.50 grade point average, participated in 50 percent of contests during the season, be a starter or important reserve contributor, have completed four semesters of college coursework or 50 percent of progress towards degree and have one year of residence at the institution.
Luttrell earned his second straight ASUN All-Academic honor after being named to the inaugural football squad in 2021. An exercise science and wellness major with a clinical emphasis, the Rainbow City native currently maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.82. He was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
While excelling in the classroom, Luttrell was one of the 2022 Gamecocks’ leaders on the field while starting every game on the defensive line. He finished the season with 25 tackles (including four for a loss), two sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a team-high six quarterback hurries.
As a senior at Westbrook for the 2018 season, Luttrell had 70 tackles (including 23 for a loss), 14 sacks, 19 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while helping the Warriors to a 7-4 record and a berth in the state playoffs. He was a Class 2A second team All-State selection and made the All-Region and All-Messenger first teams.
