Yellow Jackets rally past Weaver

Pace Ozmint scored twice in the second half to lead Glencoe High to a 15-14 come-from-behind victory over Class 3A, Region 6 rival Weaver on Friday (Oct. 16) in Anniston.

The Yellow Jackets (7-1, 5-1) clinched second place in Class 3A, Region 6 and a home playoff game. It marked the seventh straight season that Glencoe has qualified for the postseason.

With Glencoe trailing 14-3 at halftime, Ozmint scored on a 1-yard run at 8:19 of the third quarter. The two-point conversion pass failed.

Ozmint found the end zone with 3:47 left in the game on another 1-yard run. The two- point conversion play also came up short.

Andrew Lang’s 26-yard field goal at 8:20 of the first quarter gave the Yellow Jackets the early lead before DeAngelo Ford’s 14-yard touchdown run three minutes later made it 7-3 in favor of the Bearcats.

Dalton Hamby’s 89-yard touchdown pass to Maurice Goodman at 1:44 of the second period provided Weaver with an 11-point halftime lead.

Ozmint finished with 123 yards rushing on 23 carries. Chase Wilson completed 3-of-11 passes for 68 yards.

Cole Holbrooks led Glencoe in tackles with eight, followed by Ozmint, Coleman Morris and Noah Hauk with seven each.

The Yellow Jackets close out region play this Friday (Oct. 23) at Pleasant Valley.
