‘Let it Snow’ exhibit ‘Festival of Trees’ open this weekend

The forecast is in and the chance of snow in Gadsden on Nov. 16 is 100 percent.

Let It Snow: The Exhibit will kick off its second year on Nov. 16 at the new children’s exhibit space in the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts.

The exhibit will include the snow-themed favorites activities from last year and some new additions for this year including an indoor ice skating rink for sock footed skaters.

“The ice rink is made from a unique material that hockey rinks sometimes use in the off season for their players to practice on,” Tami Brooks, director of Imagination Place Children’s Museum, said.

“The kids are going to love it!”

Let It Snow is an indoor winter wonderland where kids can sled down the snow slide, toss snow balls in the snow ball pit and make snow angels in the snow pit which looks, feels and glistens just like real snow.

The opening of Let It Snow will coincide with the opening of the 24th annual Festival of Trees.

This year’s theme Christmas Around the World and will feature more than 30 trees decorated by elementary school children and local non-profits. The trees can be found on the second floor of the Cultural Arts Center.

On opening day at 11 a.m. the Downtown Dance Conservatory will perform Marzipan’s Cupcakes in the Kathy Chan gallery amongst the decorated trees.

Let It Snow: The Exhibit will run from November 16, 2013 through Jan. 31, 2014 and Festival of Trees: Christmas Around the World will run Nov. 16 through Dec. 22.
