Gaston blasts Patriots, earn playoff berth

Going into the last week of region play on Friday (Oct. 25), Gaston and West End still had a lot to play for this season.

The Bulldogs were fighting for a playoff spot and the Patriots were scratching for their first win on the year.

Etowah clinched a spot in the state playoffs on Friday (Oct. 25) with a 31-3 Class 5A, Region 7 victory over Boaz in Attalla.

The Blue Devils (7-2, 5-2) clinched third place in the region standings thanks to their victory and Scottsboro’s triumph over Fort Payne.

Brewer Hicklen led Huntsville back from a 21-point halftime deficit to Gadsden City, only to fall short 42-41 in overtime in the Class 6A, Region 7 game.

Combined with Pell City’s loss, the win gave the Titans (5-4, 5-2) the region’s third playoff seed. GCHS travels to Bessemer City on Nov. 8 for a first round game. 

Jackets jam Ashville, gain playoff berth

Panthers blank Brewer

Southside closed out Class 5A, Region 7 play on Friday (Oct. 25) with a 42-0 win over Brewer in Somerville. 

As the region’s No. 1 seed, the Panthers (9-0, 7-0) host Wenonah on Nov. 8 in the first round of the state playoffs. 

Blake Devine scored four touchdowns for Southside, three from scrimmage and one on a punt return.

Redskins tomahawk Sardis
