We are very good in this country of remembering our veterans and celebrating our freedom.

Every year, we devote three holidays to our country and those who have served in the military: Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day.

‘Let it Snow’ exhibit ‘Festival of Trees’ open this weekend

The forecast is in and the chance of snow in Gadsden on Nov. 16 is 100 percent.

Let It Snow: The Exhibit will kick off its second year on Nov. 16 at the new children’s exhibit space in the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts.

Victoria Cleveland selected as Miss Gadsden State 2014

Victoria Cleveland of Gadsden was crowned the new Miss Gadsden State Community College 2014. 

Cleveland, the daughter of Gene and Allison Cleveland, is a freshman, majoring in cosmetology.

She received a two-semester scholarship to Gadsden State, a cash scholarship of $200 and numerous other prizes. 

She was crowned by Suzanne Bruton, Miss Gadsden State Community College 2013.

The Gadsden Music Club met recently at the Music Center at Temple Beth Israel for the annual International Music Relations Day and the United Nations Day Observation Program.

The National Federation of Music Clubs is one of only three music organizations chartered by Congress and the only music organization that is a member of the United Nations.

EHS program urges all seniors to apply to college

Etowah High School is one of just 10 schools in the state selected to participate in a pilot program encouraging all high school seniors to apply to college.

EHS Junior/Senior Counselor Kali Brand said even if students don’t plan to go to college, they are being encouraged to apply.

Several dads had a day in with children at Gadsden’s J.W. Stewart Headstart program, spending time in classrooms with their children and helping out with the serving of meals and other tasks.

Headstart’s Porter Foster said their visit was part of Headstart’s Male Initiative – an effort to encourage men to become more involved in their children’s school activities
