Backpack Blessings in Ivalee Community
Ivalee Elementary is a small school with a big capacity for giving, especially through their Backpack Blessings program.
Heather Ford, the school’s counselor, has been there for 10 years and started the program three years ago to help ensure that needy children had plenty to eat when they left school for the weekend each Friday.

GRMC honors Huffman
John Huffman, who has worked at Gadsden Regional for four decades, has been named the hospital’s Employee of the Year.
Huffman, who began his tenure with the hospital in 1973, is employed as a dispatcher/patient transporter with Imaging Services. He coordinates workflow for the transport service, as well as work schedules and daily assignments for the department.

Gadsden State’s weightless students return to Earth
Seven students from Gadsden State Community College have returned after testing their NASA research mentored experiments aboard NASA’s reduced gravity aircraft. The students are busy evaluating their data after experiencing weightlessness at NASA Johnson Space Center’s Ellington Field in Houston.

Local players make All-State football teams
Ten area players and two coaches were named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association 2013 All-State football teams.
