Leaving a legacy: Community mourns Wilson

Downtown Gadsden and the surrounding community ended 2013 mourning the loss of local businessman Kerry L. Wilson.

Wilson, 58, died on Dec. 29.

“We’ve lost a good one,” Downtown Gadsden Inc. Director Kay Moore said. “He knew his business, he knew how to run his business and he knew how to treat people.

Former Ike Saks building owner Julius Rubel dies at age 97

On the same day that the current owner of the Ike Saks building at the corner of 5th and Broad streets passed away, Julius Sidney Rubel, who owed the building until 1979, died in Longboat Key, Fla.

According to a published obituary, Rubel and his late wife Joyce Saks Rubel lived in Gadsden for many years and owned Ike Saks Clothing

2013 was a year full of events and accomplishments in historic downtown Gadsden.

In March 2013 DGI welcomed Mary Wood as its new Manager of  Marketing and Development.  A native of Kentucky and a former retail manager, Wood has been a great asset to the downtown merchants. 

For the second year, Sunset Sips was a huge success.  Proceeds from ticket sales were
