Sanderson steps in as Gadsden State softball coach

For both his team and his facilities, such is the wish of Gadsden State first-year softball coach Shane Sanderson. 

With one sophomore and 14 freshmen on the roster, Sanderson is well aware that his inaugural Cardinal squad will experience some growing pains this season. Gadsden State is 1-4 so far

Westbrook gains third straight trip to regionals

The Westbrook Christian’s boys basketball team scored the final five points of the game to take a 67-62 victory over Weaver in Class 3A sub-regional action Tuesday (Feb. 10) in Rainbow City.

Eagles, Conquerors lose in subregionals

Hokes Bluff lost to White Plains, 47-44, in the Class 4A subregional playoffs on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at WPHS. Kaden Moore scored 14 points for the Eagles (21-9).  Coosa Christian fell to Skyline, 71-41, in the Class 1A subregional playoffs on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at SHS. The Conquerors finished the season at 16-7. 

Glencoe, Gaston advance to regional tournament

Sparked by Sally Tinker’s double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, Glencoe defeated Piedmont, 44-35, in the Class 3A subregionals on Monday (Feb. 9) at PHS.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (18-14) will play either Sand Rock or Plainview at 3 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 16) in the Northeast Regional Tournament semifinals at Jacksonville State.

Eagles, Conquerors lose in in area tournament finals

Hokes Bluff fell to Cherokee County, 58-50, in the championship game of the Class 4A, Area 12 Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 7) in Centre. 

The Eagles (21-8) will travel to White Plains on Tuesday in the subregional round.
