NASCAR institutes procedural change for Sunday’s CampingWorld.com 500

NASCAR implemented a new procedural change earlier this week for Sunday’s CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, the third and deciding race of the riveting Contender Round in the 2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. West End, Gaston qualify for regional volleyball tournament

West End defeated Gaston, 25-19, 26-24, 25-15, to win the Class 2A, Area 12 volleyball tournament on Monday (Oct. 19) in Walnut Grove.

Both West End (20-27, 4-0) and Gaston will compete in the Class 2A Regional Tournament beginning on Friday (Oct. 23) in Huntsville. The Lady Patriots open against Falkville, while the Lady Bulldogs play Addison.

Westbrook wins area volleyball tournament

Westbrook Christian swept its way to the Class 3A, Area 11 Tournament championship on Monday (Oct. 19) in Ohatchee.

The Lady Warriors opened with a 25-22, 25-9, 25-18 victory over Glencoe before posting a 25-12, 25-15, 25- 19 win over Ohatchee in the title match.

Fifty-two Alabama high schools, including Gadsden City, Gaston and Etowah, advanced to the voting round of the Alabama Power Foundation’s Power To Play grant competition. Power To Play focuses on helping expand student access to high school athletic programs.

Gaston clinches region’s third seed with win over Collinsville

Gaston held off Collinsville, 35-28, last Friday (Oct. 16)
in a key Class 2A, Region 7 game at Gaston. With the victory, the Bulldogs
(6-2, 3-2) clinched the region’s third playoff seed.

Jashun Cammeron paced the Bulldogs with 156 yards on the
ground on 17 carries and two touchdowns.
