Etowah County basketball tournament set

When the New Year experiences its first extended temperature dip below the freezing mark, you know its time for the Etowah County Schools Basketball Tournament. 

For the first time in several years, the games will not held at Gadsden State Community College. Instead, the entire tournament will take place at Gaston High School.

In the varsity girls’ bracket, No. 4 seed Sardis and No. 5 seed West End will face off on Monday (Jan. 18), while No. 3 seed Glencoe and No. 6 seed Gaston meet on Tuesday (Jan. 19). On Wednesday, top-seeded Southside plays the Sardis/West End winner, while No. 2 seed and defending champion Hokes Bluff squares off against the Glencoe/Gaston winner. The championship game is set for Friday (Jan. 22). All games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. starting time.

The boys bracket kicks off on Monday with defending champion and No. 4 seed Hokes Bluff taking on No. 5 West End. On Tuesday, No. 3 Sardis goes up against No. 6 Gaston. Wednesday’s action features No. 1 seed Sardis against the Hokes Bluff/West End winner, while the Sardis/Gaston winner plays No. 2 Southside on Thursday. The title contest is set for Friday. All games are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. 

Daily admission is $5.
