The Westbrook Christian football team spoiled Section’s Homecoming last Friday (Sept. 16).
The visiting Warriors broke open a tight game with three second-quarter touchdowns on the way to a 42-0 Class 2A Region 6 victory.
Section (1-4, 1-2) struggled to produce much offensively while the Lion defense struggled to slow down Westbrook, which rushed for 261 yards and passed for another 106.
Westbrook Christian (1-3, 1-2) opened the scoring on Addison Ponder’s 30-yard touchdown run with 6:13 left in the first quarter.
The Warriors broke it open in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 14-0 on Garret Kennedy’s 4-yard TD run with 6:24 left in the half. A blocked punt set up Westbrook at the Section 4 on its next possession, and Kennedy scored on the next play for a 21-0 advantage.
The Warriors pushed the lead to 28-0 with 43 seconds left until halftime when quarterback Tyler Comeau hit Braden Beecham for a 39-yard TD pass.
Kennedy scored on a 63-yard touchdown run on the first play of the third quarter to stretch the Warriors’ lead to 35-0.
Kennedy finished with 131 rushing yards on just seven carries. Hunter Grimes added 85 yards on nine carries, including a 27-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Comeau was 4-of-passing for 106 yards, with all four completions going to Beecham.
Dylan Cooper had 107 yards on 25 carries for Section, which managed only 133 rushing yards on 39 carries for the game and had only 154 total yards and eight first downs.
Westbrook hosts White Plains this week (Sept. 23) in the Warriors’ homecoming.
