GRMC hangs banner earned for certification

A crane places a banner on top of Gadsden Regional Medical Center on June 22 in East Gadsden. The banner proclaimed the facility as the first and only hospital in Alabama to receive Joint Commission certification for hip and knee replacements.

Gadsden Regional Medical Center installed a large banner last Friday (June 22) to recognize being the first and only hospital in Alabama to receive Joint Commission certification for hip and knee replacements.

The banner, which measures 19-feet wide by 34-feet long and features the Joint Commission’s distinguished gold seal, was hung using a crane from Barnhart in Gadsden.

The banner is expected to remain at GRMC for at least three months.

“With Joint Commission certification, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis,” said GRMC Chief Executive Officer Stephen Pennington. “Joint Commission accreditation provides us a framework to take our organization to the next level and helps create a culture of excellence.

“Achievements in high quality like this are possible when many departments/employees work as a team, demand excellence of themselves and the medical staff (orthopedic physicians in this case) are engaged in making sure their patients have excellent outcomes.”

The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification Program is designed to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care. The certification requirements address three core areas – compliance with consensus-based national standards, effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
