Weaver used an explosive rushing attack and a stingy defense to subdue Glencoe, 42-13, in high school football action last Friday (Oct. 19).
The Bearcats exploded for 270 yards rushing and 21 yards passing while holding the Yellow Jackets to 118 yards of total offense. Glencoe finished with 118 yards in total offense to Weaver’s 291.
“I’m proud of my team,” said Glencoe head coach Brian Alred. “Good things can come from a game like this; we just have to build off of it. We have a very young team.”
The teams traded first quarter scores. Weaver (5-3, 3-3) took the opening kickoff and drove 66 yards in eight plays. Shamar Spinks scored on an 8-yard run. The PAT made the score 7-0 with 8:42 remaining in the first quarter.
Glencoe (0-8, 0-6) answered, driving 38 yards in seven plays to knot the score at 7-7 with 43 seconds to go in the opening period when Julian Bethel threw a 10-yard TD pass to Hunter Gray.
The second quarter was all Weaver, however, as the visitors scored three touchdowns while holding Glencoe to a total of 52 first half yards.
The Bearcats added a pair of scores in the second half to increase the lead to 42-7.
With time running out, Glencoe’s Tristen Cox broke loose on a 65-yard run.
Shamar Spinks led Weaver with 137 yards rushing on 14 carries.
The Yellow Jackets close out region play this week with a visit to Saks.
