Ashville, Gadsden City compete at Oxford meet

The Ashville girls finished fourth and the AHS boys fifth out of 14 teams at the Oxford Meet No. 2 last Saturday (Apr. 17) at Choccolocco Park. The Gadsden City girls and boys both came in seventh place.
Earning the first place gold were Ashville’s Taylor Knight in the girls 1600-meter run (5:47.71), the Ashville girls 4×800-meter relay team of Callie Stewart, Kathleen McCarthy, Emma Drinkard, Meghan McCarthy (10:45.91), Gadsden City’s Calvin Wilson in the boys shot put (39-00.00), Ashville’s Gabe Sawyer in the boys110-meter hurdles (a school-record 17.43), Ashville’s Nick Spears in the boys pole vault (12-00.00) and the Gadsden City boys 4×800-meter relay team of Demarcus Macon, Tanner Rice, Cameron Rolley and Corion Holloman (8:50.87).
Taking the second-place sliver were Gadsden City’s Emani Morgan in the girls 100-meter dash (12.72), Ashville’s Taylor Knight in the girls 3200-meter run (12:07.27), Ashville’s Kayla Simpson in the girls triple jump (31-06.50), the Gadsden City girls 4×100-meter relay team of Kyla Price, Trinity Price, Amelia Ryan and Emani Morgan (50.07), the Ashville girls 4×400-meter relay team of Callie Stewart, Kathleen McCarthy, Emma Drinkard and Molly Northam (4:36.71), Gadsden City’s DeMarcus Macon in the boys high jump (5-08.00), Gaston’s Kodie Bogle in the boys javelin (143-06) and the Gadsden City boys 4×400-meter relay team of Demarcus Macon, Corion Holloman, Cameron Rolley and DaQuandalon Daniels (3:33.32).
Winning the third-place bronze were Gadsden City’s Kyla Price in the 400-meter dash (1:00.54) and Ashville’s Gabe Sawyer in the boys 300-meter hurdles (44.82).
