Southside boys, Ashville girls shine at Lincoln

The Southside boys finished third and the Ashville girls placed fourth out of 14 teams at the Lincoln track and field meet No. 1 on March 11.
The Ashville boys came in seventh.
The Panthers won four events, including Evan Christopher (pictured above) in the 1600-meter run at 4:50.90, Jackson Griggs in the 3200-meter run at 9:59.28, Will Shirley in the shot put at 44-10.50 and Cole Chastain in the javelin at 154-08 10.
The Lady Bulldogs won two events – Emma Drinkard in the 400-meter run at 1:00.20 and the 4×800-meter relay team of Taylor Knight, Molly Northam, Alana Whiteman and Allie Cone at 11:04.00.
Drinkard won a pair of second place events, finishing runner-up in the 100-meter dash at 12.90 and the 200-meter dash at 26.80. Also taking the silver for the AHS girls was Anzlee Farmer in the pole vault at 6-06.00.
Placing second for the Southside boys were Hayden Tucker in the 1600-meter run at 5:04 and the 4×800-meter relay team of Tucker, Griggs, Christopher and Grant Matthews at 8:56.00.
Ashville’s Greyson Simpson took second in both the pole vault (10-06.00) and javelin (134-09) events. The Bulldogs’ Parker Smith finished second in the high jump at 5-10.00.
Third place performances for Southside included Will Shirley in the boys javelin at 132-03, Sarah Burger in the girls 1600-meter run at 6:18.00, Kathryn Webb in the girls high jump at 4-10.00 and the girls 4×100-meter relay team of Zoie Menk, Anna Cashman, Rylie Kitchens and Lauren Henderson at 52.40.
