Sophia Jackson’s two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Hokes Bluff a 6-5 victory over Glencoe on April 20 at Hokes Bluff.
Jackson’s clutch hit came after Glencoe rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead on Aubrie Maxwell’s RBI triple in the top of the seventh.
The Lady Eagles began their comeback in the bottom of the inning when Abby Payne was hit by a pitch. Glencoe pitcher Savannah Crump fanned the next two batters to bring the Lady Yellow Jackets within one out of a victory, but Makenna Bennich kept Hokes Bluff alive with a full-count walk.
That brought Jackson to the plate, who stroked a 0-1 offering in the centerfield gap to score Payne and Mary Davenport (who was courtesy running for Bennich) with the tying and winning run, respectively.
The Lady Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a full-count walk by Ava Dodd and a two-run double from Bennich. During the next inning, Kayla Traylor went yard on the first pitch of her at-bat to make it a four-run advantage.
Glencoe drew within 4-1 in the third when Hailey Hanners doubled home Abi Bunt, while Cayse Willett’s three-run dinger in the fourth tied the game.
For Hokes Bluff, Jackson went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Traylor went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
