Local DAR greets veterans

Members of the James Gadsden chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution pose in front of the Petro fuel station with Brett Johnson.

On May 23, 2023, the James Gadsden Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) greeted and supported veterans riding motorcycles from California to celebrate Memorial Day at the Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.

The motorcycle entourage made a refueling stop at the Petrol Service Center and were greeted by the James Gadsden, Birmingham Territory, Gunter Mountain and Hunts Spring DAR chapters who passed out snacks and drinks on the rainy day.

Brett Johnson from Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford’s office came to represent the City of Gadsden at the event.

Four groups of veterans made the ride to the Veterans Memorial Wall across the country, and Gadsden is just one refueling stop in Alabama.

Kristine “Eyes” Wood, the Southern Campaign Coordinator and a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, is leading the ride.

“It is our honor to celebrate and thank these veterans who are making this trip across our country to bring focus to all veterans, their families and honor all prisoners of war, missing in action, and killed in action from all wars,” the Gadsden chapter of DAR said in a statement.
