Sardis, Glencoe win area; Etowah, Hokes Bluff, Lady Lions to travel in subregionals

Glencoe defeated Hokes Bluff, 52-46, in the Class 3A Area 12 Tournament girls championship game on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Glencoe. The Lady Yellow Jackets led 12-10 after one period, 29-23 at halftime and 42-29 after three quarters. For Glencoe, Alli Jo Amos finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Kinlee Montgomery had 12 points and two assists, Anna Grace Ponder contributed six points and three rebounds and Sarah Ponder added four points, four rebounds and four assists. Montgomery was named Tournament MVP, while Amos and Sarah Ponder were named to the all-tournament team. Glencoe will host Sylvania and Hokes Bluff will travel to Plainview in the subregional playoffs on Friday, Feb. 9.

Sardis defeated Douglas, 72-59, in the Class 5A Area 13 Tournament boys championship game on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Sardis City.
The Lions (27-2) led 17-10 after one period, 36-24 at halftime and 54-35 after three quarters.
Kason Moore led Sardis with 22 points, followed by Eli Morton with 19, Luke Martin with 16 and Carson Gillilan with nine.
The Lions advanced to the subregional playoff round on Saturday, Feb. 10, where they will host either Leeds or Springville.

Etowah fell to Oneonta, 46-42, in the Class 4A Area 10 Tournament boys championship game on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Attalla. Jacob Turner paced the Blue Devils with 14 points, while Jameson Scissum finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Lamont Richardson added six points, while Jalien Walker grabbed six rebounds. Etowah will travel to either Handley or Anniston for the subregional playoff round on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Sardis fell to Boaz, 52-34, in the Class 5A Area 13 Tournament girls championship game on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Sardis City. The Lady Lions (21-10) travel to Springville for the subregional playoff round on Friday, Feb. 9.
