Local basketball fans who witnessed the Glencoe and Hokes Bluff boys basketball game last Tuesday (Jan. 29) certainly got their money’s worth.

Anthony Morris’ 3-point basket with two seconds remaining in the second overtime propelled the visiting Yellow Jackets to a 55-52 win.

Austin Hancock added a pair of free throws for the final margin of victory.

“We could have folded, but instead the guys fought back,” said Glencoe head coach Tommy Stanley. “Micah McHenry and Brock Little did a good job defending Isaac Haas. It’s hard to coach against someone that is 7’2’’ tall.”

Hancock led the Jackets (16-9) with a game-high 20 points, followed by Morris with 18.

Glencoe managed to build a 14-10 lead after one period due to the fact that Hokes Bluff’s 7’2’’ center Isaac Haas was sitting on the bench after picking up two quick fouls.

The Eagles (16-8) clawed their way back in the second quarter, outscoring Glencoe 15-8 to take a 25-22 halftime lead.

Hokes Bluff increased its lead to 40-32 after three quarters and appeared hea-ded to a win.

But Morris scored seven points over the final eight minutes to bring the Jackets back within striking distance, and his 3-pointer forced a 45-45 tie and sent the game into the first extra session.

The teams traded buckets during the initial overtime for 47-47.

Haas scored five of his 14 points in the second OT before the heroics of Mor-ris sparked the Jackets to victory.

Tanner Shields added 11 points for the Eagles.
