Chamber ESBYs honor small businesses

The Chamber, Gadsden Etowah County, bestowed honors on a number of local businesses — including the Messenger — on Oct. 9 at the annual Etowah Small Business Awards luncheon at the Hardin Center for Cultural Arts.

It’s Yogurtime was named New Small Business of the Year. The frozen yogurt shop, owned by Craig and Angela Lipscomb, is located at 901 Rinbow Drive.

Jireh’s Boutique, at 546 Broad Street, was named Minority/Woman Owned Small Business of the Year. Jireh’s, in business for 18 years, is owned by Anna Heard.

Hyundai of Gadsden was voted the 2013 Small Business of the Year, 25 or fewer employees. The Hyundai dealership, is located on Ala. 77 in Rainbow City.

Physcian’s Apothecary’s downtown location received the 2013 Small Business of the Year – 25-50 employees award. Owners Danny and Donna Guest accepted the award.

The Chamber honored Kerry Wilson Insurance with the Community Improvement award for extensive work done to remodel the building at 434 Broad Street, which now houses the agency.

The 2013 Friend of Small Business went to Messenger News Editor Donna Thornton.

The Chamber presented a number of Milestone Awards. Surgical Associates of Gadsden received a Bronze Award, for more than 25 years in business. Hicks Shoes received the Silver Award, with more than 50 years in business.

The Gold Award went to Hindsman-Davis P.C., with more than 75 years in business.

The Gadsden Steam Plant was honored with the Centennial Award, marking more than 100 years in business in Etowah County.
