After the emotionally-charged game against Etowah High last week, Southside is hoping to avoid playing flat in a game that has no bearing on the playoff situation.

Win or lose, Southside is Class 5A Region 7 champion.

Don’t let that fool you, though. There’s still a lot that the Panthers are playing for.

“Team pride, an undefeated season – we’re close to a lot of our goals,” coach Ron Daugherty said. “I hope they’re focused on this game and not thinking about Etowah or anyone else.

“After the Etowah game, we went right back to work, with the same routine.”

Brewer is a team that is much improved over recent years.

“(Coach Dan) Styles got them in the weight room and has done a tremendous job in one season,” Daugherty said. “They’re a big team with good speed that shows you a lot of different things on offense.”

Last week against Etowah, Aleric Williams led the way with nine carries for 157 yards and a touchdown, while Dantley Coker had 23 carries for 96 yards and a score.

Blake Devine had nine carries for 31 yards, one reception for the 42-yard touchdown and intercepted a pass.
