CommUnity needs volunteers

For more than a decade, members of the community have come together  to find a blessing and to be a blessing by participating in the CommUnity Thanksgiving Celebration at Convention Hall.

Organizers hope to feed more than 4,000 people this year, many who will come to Convention Hall to break bread with old friends or make new ones, and others who will pick up meals or have them delivered to their homes.

United Way-First Call for Help helps with the organizing of this Thanksgiving dinner each year. Volunteers are needed still to help with preparation in the days leading up to the meal and that day, in serving, delivering and cleaning up.

Those who would like to be a part of the CommUnity Thanksgiving Celebration, should come join organizers on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, Nov. 26, 27, or 28. The schedule for each days volunteers needs are as follows:

Tuesday, Nov. 26, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Come chop vegetables and help to mix up some great cornbread dressing

Wednesday, Nov. 27, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Things really get cooking today! Volunteers will be chopping 1,100 pounds of turkey, mixing and cooking cornbread dressing, slicing cakes and decorating Convention Hall.

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day:

Anyone who would like to deliver meals should come to Convention Hall by 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will be racing all over Etowah County to get those meals delivered by 11 a.m.  DJ Buster Porch will treat both volunteers and diners to some great music. Serving begins at 10:30 a.m. at Convention Hall and there are all kinds of volunteer opportunities that last until 2 p.m.

Signing up to volunteer is easy!! Go to http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/926236478012 to sign up online or call 256-546-4357 and we will take your information.
