The James Gadsden Daughters of the American Revolution med recently at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
Members and visitors were welcomed by Annie Batie, regent.
She called the meeting to order.
The program was a presentation of the Christopher Columbus and American History essay winners.
The American History essay winners were: Maxwell Luke Hefner, eighth grade, Rainbow Middle School, and Jeremy Adam Hilburn, sixth grade, West End Elementary School.
The Christopher Columbus essay winner was Emily Frederick, 10th grade, Hokes Bluff High School. The Women in History award was given to Sammye Hill.
The Daughters of the American Revolution have many worthwhile projects throughout the year.
Several include taking up money for phone cards for veterans overseas to call home, helping disabled veterans at home and in hospitals, collecting school supplies for Kate Smith Duncan DAR School, collecting stuffed animals for children who have been in accidents, and seat covers for the Salvation Army.
Along with these worthwhile projects, DAR members take time to honor local and state veterans.
