Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Art’s exhibit Toys: The Inside Story ends after Labor Day.
The exhibit featured 12 stations showing the mechanisms that run classic childhood toys, like a jack-in-the-box. The exhibit demonstrates how gears, pulleys and circuits work in other popular toys as well.
The center is open on weekends, if people want to see the exhibit before it closes. The hours on Saturday are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. On Sunday, the center is open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for children 3-12. It is free for children 2 and under.
Upcoming events at the center include the First Annual Tutu2K. The event is described as a “fun-run fundraiser.” The proceeds will benefit the Downtown Dance Conservatory’s programs.
The Tutu2K is open to all participants, regardless of age or ability. The only rule is that a tutu must be worn. Tutus will be sold at the event.
The race will be held on Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. It will start at 7th and Broad in the lot by Downtown Gadsden, Inc then continue to 1st street, before it loops back to the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts, where it ends.
The preregistration deadline is Sept. 5. To register, go to www.culturalarts.org/tutu2k and click on the registration form link.
