“We’re not very good at any aspect of the game.”
That was Drew Noles’ assessment of his Etowah High football team last week following the Blue Devils second straight defeat.
Noles’ opinion follows what could be the Blue Devils’ toughest loss in years.
Youth has a lot to do with Etowah’s problems. There are a lot of times when the Blue Devils have as many as seven sophomores on the field at any given time.
The Blue Devils look to make improvements against a resurgent Douglas team that is seeing Class 5A action for the first time.
“They run the ball a lot,” Noles said of the Eagles. “They’re big up front and have some big backs.”
Gary Johnson, who Noles said is probably the best back in the region, should return after missing last week.
“He’s a great player,” Noles said. “And they show a lot of different formations, trying to confuse the defenders.”
The Blue Devils’ lone score last week came on Andy Noles’ 24-yard touchdown pass to Stacy Williams. Noles and Williams also connected for the two-point conversion.
