Coming off a Class 5A, Region 7 tough loss, Etowah High has a chance this week to improve itself.

“I know they’re having a rough time,” Blue Devils coach Drew Noles said. “They’re in the middle of a long losing streak, and that’s never good.”

The Rebels have lost 35 games in a row, dating back to 2011.

Etowah, meanwhile, played as well as it has played since Noles’ arrival last year.

“We played great [against Guntersville],” he said. “We just couldn’t finish drives. That’s one of the things we’re working on this week.”

The Blue Devils got in-side the Guntersville 5-yard line three times and entered the Wildcat 20 twice more.

“It was a tremendous effort, for both teams,” Noles said. “It really showed us what we need to work on and that’s what we’ve been doing – focusing on ourselves.”

Etowah currently is tied for second place in the region behind Guntersville along with Boaz and Madison County. The Blue Devils play Boaz next Friday and Madison County on Oct. 24.
