On Monday, June 8, Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity will participate in the Home Builders Blitz 2015. A home will be constructed at 2111 Calhoun Drive in E. Gadsden for the Alegria family of five. It will be completed by the end of the following week.

Home Builders Blitz is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the building industry that gives local builders a chance to give back to their community while networking with other builders and suppliers.

“Through the partnership and generosity of the Greater Gadsden Home Builders Association, under the leadership of Bobby Dale Welch, local contractors and businesses will participate in Blitz Build 2015,” said Steve Scharfenberg, Habitat volunteer and board member. “This is the 7th Blitz Build partnership with GGHBA over the years.”

Across the U.S., more than 50 Habitat for Humanity affiliates will take part in this year’s event.

Habitat recruits local professional builders to partner with Habitat and coordinate the project through completion. Habitat for Humanity acquires land, develops the sites, provides house plans and permits, while builders donate labor. Habitat selects homebuyers based on its family selection criteria.

Many builders and subcontractors who participate in Home Builders Blitz stay actively involved with Habitat long after the event through continued volunteerism, advocacy and financial support.

Habitat believes housing provides a critical foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. This event offers professional homebuilders the opportunity to use their skills and talents to address the growing need for low-income housing in communities nationwide.

The 4th Annual Habitat Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15. Funds from the festivals provide financial support for Habitat for Humanity building projects. Registration is open until July 31. To enter your team, contact Habitat or visit www.habitatdragonboat.com for more information and forms.
