Rainbow City Library held its annual reward party for the summer reading program on July 29. The children enjoyed pizza donated by Papa John’s, ice cream and a magic show performed by Russell Davis.
The party was for children who accomplished their reading goals in the allotted time period during their summer break. The children had to read at least 15 books or 1,000 pages. Around 365 children met the requirements.
Two of the children, Madison, age 6, and Avery, age 3, Cordi, loved sitting through the magic show. Their faces were full of delight as the magician performed card tricks.
Their mother said that Russell Davis performed at one of their birthday parties and the girls were thrilled to see him perform again. Their mother said she loved watching the girls read and learn during their summer break.
Joyce Frohock from the Lion’s Club said the kids loved the party every year. The Lion’s Club helps collect donations for the party.
“It’s a good summer activity for the local children.” Said Frohock.
The Lion’s Club helps out with the party every year, along with many other local organizations.
The Rainbow City Library would like to thank Exchange Bank, Danny Clayton State Farm, Family Savings Credit Union, Gold’s Gym, Johnson’s, Papa John’s, Rainbow City Lion’s Club, Rainbow Pipe and Metal, Winn Dixie and Winsouth Credit Union for their continued support of the program.
