Area volleyball roundup: Glencoe beats Ohatchee twice to clinch regular season area title

Glencoe clinched the right to host the Class 3A Area 12 Tournament with a 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 26-24 victory over Ohatchee on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Ohatchee. The Lady Yellow Jackets (22-13, 5-1) also beat Cleburne County, 13-25, 25-15, 15-6. For the tri-match for Glencoe, Kaelyn Hollis had 42 digs and five assists; Evelyn Nowak had 21 kills and eight digs; Avery Barkley had 30 assists, 10 digs and four kills; Mia Talbot had 19 kills; Kinlee Montgomery had 22 assists, five kills and four service aces; Alli Jo Amos had 11 kills, 10 digs and four blocks; Gracyn Bunt had 21 digs; Payton Gray had 11 digs; Riley Helms had seven digs; Ashlyn Stone (pictured above at right) had six digs and three kills; Sadie Waldrop had four kills; and Millie Chambless had three kills.

Class 3A No. 4 Westbrook Christian swept a tri-match on the school’s Senior Night, defeating Etowah, 25-14, 25-13 and West End, 25-11, 25-13 in Rainbow City. For the Lady Warriors (35-4, 3-3), Raylee Neal had 42 assists, 12 digs and five aces; Ellison Stewart had 21 kills, seven aces and seven digs; Marley Cox had 19 digs, six kills and three aces; Landri Lipscomb had eight kills and two aces; Addi Hammontree had seven kills and three blocks; Kylee Wyatt had eight digs; and Reid Elam had two kills.

Glencoe rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Class 2A No. 2 Ohatchee, 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-8 on Monday, Sept. 30.
For Glencoe, Evelyn Nowak had 15 kills, followed by Ashlyn Stone and Mia Talbot with 13 each, Alli Jo Amos with five, Mille Chambless with four, Avery Barkley with three and Sadie Waldrop with two. Amos also had four blocks.
Kinlee Montgomery and Barkley distributed 24 and 23 assists, respectively. Barkley and Payton Gray had two service aces.
Kaelyn Hollis came up with 40 digs, followed by Montgomery with 15, Gray with 11, Barkley with eight, Gracyn Bunt with six, Amos with five, Nowak and Talbot with three each and Stone and Waldrop with two each.

Hokes Bluff swept Gaston on Monday, Sept. 30. For the Lady Eagles, Chloe Dodd had 16 kills, followed by Addison Simmons with 12 and Mazely Ball with 10. Makenna Bennich and Simmons had 11 and seven blocks, respectively. Mary Davenport dealt out 20 assists.
