The City of Attalla will continue to celebrate its history with Attalla Heritage Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 19.
Downtown Attalla will be teaming with food and craft vendors, entertainers will be performing on three stages, a children’s area, a new Teen Scene area, a car show and all Attalla’s downtown merchants and eateries, open and ready to serve.
Lisa Spears said the all-day event will go on rain or shine, but she’s hoping for shine so everyone can enjoy the activities Attalla leaders and sponsors have made possible.
Everyone is invited to the free event, but city leaders ask that everyone leave their pets and their personnal golf carts at home.
Two Zydeco bands from Louisiana are among the entertainment on tap: Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys and Wayne and the Same Ol’ 2-Step.
Spears said the Teen Scene is a new addition to Heritage Day, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a DJ, music and other activities for teens.
For the children, there is an area featuring free rides, face painting, inflatable toys and slides.
“There is an open car show,” Spears said, “with a $20 entry fee. There are free t-shirts for the 100 entrants in the car show.” The car show will features a $1,000 money tree and door prizes.
“And there will be food, food, food,” Spears said, from vendors and Attalla’s own restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and candy stores.
Entertainment will include the Zydeco bands, the Jim Parks Band, the Kings of Swing, Stereo Revival, the Boys of Alabama, Ballyhoo, Vintage Gray, South Ridge, Alabama Entertainers, the Etowah High School singers and band, Strut USA, Chosen/Ace and Ed Howard.
“As always, the city is grateful to the sponsors who continue to make Heritage Day such a success,” Spears said. Without sponsors, she said, an event like this wouldn’t be possible.
