Class 4A No. 10 Etowah clinched a playoff spot for the 12th year in a row with a 48-7 victory over Region 6 rival Hanceville on October 7 in Attalla. The Blue Devils (6-1. 5-0) visit No. 9 and region foe Cherokee County this Friday (Oct. 14) with a region title possibly at stake.
Gadsden City clinched its first playoff berth since 2016 and its first region title since 2014 with a 53-0 shutout over Mae Jemison on October 7 in Huntsville.
The GCHS defense held the Jaguars (0-8, 0-4) to 74 total yards and came up with three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
Quarerback Matthew Sparks and receiver Clyde Curry teamed up for three touchdowns. Curry rushed for another touchdown. Sparks was 5 for 8 in passing for 106 yards, while Curry had three receptions for 61 yards. Khalil Hughley and T. J. Worth each caught two passes.
K’Rysiak Yow paced the GCHS ground game with 51 yards on five carries.
The Titans (4-4, 4-0) host 7A, Region 8 rival Lee Huntsville on Friday (Oct. 14).
Coosa Christian clinched its first playoff berth in four years after a 41-14 win over Cedar Bluff on October 7. The Conquerors (3-4, 3-1) host Appalachian this Friday (Oct. 14) for second place in the region.
