Boys basketball roundup: Sardis, Etowah, Westbrook, Ashville post victories

Kason Moore scored 18 points and Luke Martin netted 12 as Class 5A No. 4 Sardis defeated Asbury, 63-31, on Thursday, Jan. 25 in Sardis City. The Lions (23-2, 6-0) led 15-11 after one period, 30-14 at halftime and 48-28 after three quarters. Eli Morton added eight points for Sardis.

Etowah outscored Southside 37 to 21 in the second half on the way to a 62-41 victory on Jan. 23 in Attalla. For the Blue Devils, Jalien Walker finished with 15 points and seven rebounds; Jameson Scissum contributed 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals; Jacob Turner collected 13 points and four steals; and Lamont Richardson chipped in nine points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Cayden Reason had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers.

J.B. Potter finished with 19 points, five rebounds and four steals in Ashville’s 71-55 win over Hanceville on Jan. 23. Walker Griffith added 11 points for the Bulldogs, followed by Parker Smith and Nate Huckbay with nine each, Jrey Colley with eight and Dalton Rice-Thompson with seven. Colley and Justin Jones both grabbed six rebounds.

Sardis rallied from an early deficit to post a 73-64 victory over Gadsden City on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at GCHS. The Class 5A No. 4 Lions (22-2, 6-0) trailed 21-16 after one period before leading 36-32 at halftime and 52-50 after three quarters. For Sardis, Eli Morton scored 32 point, followed by Luke Martin with 13 and Lucas Montgomery and Conner Lowery with eight each. James McFadden paced the Titans with 22 points, followed by Jakobi Sharp with 12, Javien McCants with 11 and Matthew Lucas with eight.

Oneonta edged Glencoe, 78-76, on Tuesday, Jan. 23. For the Yellow Jackets (12-7), Grant Smith finished with a double-double of 21 points 12 rebounds. Aiden Cornett netted 18 points, followed by Garrett Morgan with 16 and Wade Segrest with 10.

Ashville fell to Jacksonville, 64-58, on Tuesday, Jan. 23. For the Bulldogs (12-6), J.B. Potter ended up with 21 points along with four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Nate Huckbay added 11 points, while Parker Smith contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. Dalton Rice -Thompson and Jrey Colley scored seven and six points, respectively.

Ashville improved to 16-11 with a 60-54 win over Oak Grove on Monday, Jan. 22. For the Bulldogs, J.B. Potter finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocks. Nate Huckbay added 12 points, seven steals and four rebounds, while Parke Smith produced a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Walker Griffith chipped in six points and four rebounds.

Parker Smith finished with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds in Ashville’s 55-52 victory over Etowah on Jan. 19. J.B. Potter added 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Bulldogs, while Nate Huckbay contributed 15 points, five rebounds and three steals. For the Blue Devils (14-8), Jameson Scissum had collected 20 points, 11 rebounds, five deflections, four assists and four steals, while Jalien Walker added 14 points and 10 boards. Lamont Richardson chipped in seven points and nine rebounds.

Westbrook Christian improved to 13-0 with a 69-58 victory over St. Clair County on Jan. 19 in Rainbow City. Eli Edge paced the Warriors with 20 points, followed by Cooper Greer with 17, Cooper King with 13 and Brodie Johnson with 11.

J.B. Potter knocked down four three-point baskets on the way to a game-high 34 points in Ashville’s 72-55 win over Cleburne County on Jan. 18. Potter also had seven rebounds and three assists. Parker Smith finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Walker Griffith added nine points and four rebounds and Nate Huckbay seven points and eight boards.
