Conquerors clinch first-ever region title

Coosa Christian clinched the Class 2A Region 8 title while extending its winning streak to seven games with a 49-8 victory over Cold Springs in Class 2A Region 6 action on Friday, Oct. 11 in Gadsden.
The Conquerors (7-1, 5-0) limited the Eagles to 74 total yards and 2-for-22 in third down conversion attempts. Coosa also caused six turnovers, including three interceptions and three sacks.
For the Conquerors, J’Alan Terry had two rushing attempts for 71 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a 67-yard TD pass. Clete O’Bryant had 32 yards and a touchdown on two carries.
John David Justus was 9 for 10 in passing for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Eli Motes had four receptions for 42 yards, while L.J. Mostella caught two passes for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Kylen Johnson (pictured above) returned a punt 92 yards for a and a touchdown and had two interceptions, one of which he returned 37 yards for a score. Jorge Cantellano was 3 for 4 on extra points.
O’Bryant had 16 tackles, including five for a loss, and a sack, while Kanon Wilson had 12 tackles and a sack. Radley Mayes had 11 tackles, including five for a loss, and three quarterback hurries. Cade Mickler had 10 tackles, including three for a loss. Eli Motes and Zayden Franklin each had nine tackles, followed by Hayden Palmer with eight, D.J. Mackey with six and Hayden Pearce with five. Mackey also had an interception.
Coosa closes out region play on Friday, Oct. 18 against West End in Walnut Grove.
