Conquerors upend No. 6 Spring Garden

Sparked by an opportunistic defense, Coosa Christian posted a 21-6 victory over Class 1A No. 6 Spring Garden on Sept. 5.
The Conquerors (1-1) caused six turnovers, including three fumble recoveries, two interceptions.
Coosa took the lead for good on a pair of first-quarter field goals by Jadan Burns, followed by rushing touchdowns from Clete O’Bryant and Josh Hester during the second period.
The Panthers’ lone score came midway through the third quarter on Noah Barber’s 63-yard touchdown pass to John Welsh.
O’Bryant led the way defensively with 14 tackles, for of them for a loss. Hester had 12 stops, followed by Cade Mickler with seven, Eli Motes (pictured above) with six, and Radley Mays and Zayden Franklin with four each. Grant Morgan and Grayson Malone each had an interception.
Hester and O’Bryant also had a big impact on offense, the former rushing for 155 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and the latter gaining 78 yards and a TD on 10 attempts.
John David Justus was 5 for 20 in passing for 64 yards, with Dylan Edwards catching three passes for 30 yards.
Coosa Christian opens Class 1A Region 7 play this Thursday, Sept. 7, at Gaylesville.
