The Northeast Alabama Regional Airport in Gadsden recently partnered with development firm Avion to add up to 28 new t-hangars, and potentially new box hangars, to its footprint. The company is currently in pre-sales, seeking commitments from interested buyers to claim one of the first row of 14 hangars.

“This development is a win-win for the airport,” said Airport Manager Anthony Tarver. “With everything going on in the Gadsden area, from economic development to tourism, we have seen an uptick in interest in flying into and from here, which has led us to a waiting list for plane owners needing a space to store their planes. With Avion, we will add several new and improved hangars funded one hundred percent by private investments.”

The company plans to construct two rows of 14 t-hangars to fit individual planes with space for additional aviation storage. Each hangar unit will be sold to an owner who will then join as part of a hangar owners association, which will ensure the hangar facilities are maintained in a safe, clean and presentable fashion to preserve the value of their investment and improve the look and experience at the Gadsden Airport.

The company is also willing to include the construction of larger box hangars in the development. Box hangars can hold larger aircraft or multiple aircraft, depending on the design and utility of the structure.

“We have seen the focus on growth in Gadsden and particularly at this airport,” said Avion CEO Jason Goins. “I have done projects like this at larger airports, but I see the growing demand for hangar space in the Southeast, and the Gadsden Airport is positioned well regionally for pilots and owners to house their aircraft. So, we’re looking to bring a nice set of t-hangars here and build something the aviation community can be proud of.”

Once enough pre-sales have been committed, the company intends to begin construction on the first row of hangars and will do the same with the second row. Airport leaders say the increased number of planes based in Gadsden will mean more fuel sales, more flight activity and an improvement in the aviation industry in Gadsden.

The Gadsden Airport is a general aviation airport serving pilots and business leaders needing to travel throughout northeast Alabama. As a regional airport, it strives to offer smooth, superior service while facilitating safe and secure transportation throughout the region.
