The Etowah County Animal Shelter, located at 12071 Hwy 278 in East Piedmont, will host an open house event on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is the second year the shelter has held the event, but this year the event is much bigger.

Free hot dogs will be available for attendees. Several booths will be set up, including PetCo with a spinning wheel for prizes.

The main event, of course, is the animals. The shelter is hoping to get many animals adopted as possible.

“It’s almost one of those ‘empty the shelter’ type deals,” said Etowah County Animal Shelter Jamie Thompson. “We want people to know about us and come adopt our animals. It would be great if we adopted out every dog and cat in the shelter.”

The animal adoption fee is discounted to $25 on Saturday. The fee includes a spay or neuter, a heartworm test and a rabies shot.

“Our number one goal is to adopt them out, get them homes,” said Thompson.

To attend the event, all that is needed is a donation. Money is accepted, but the event will also accept pet food and cleaning supplies.

When attendees donate, they will receive a raffle ticket, with which they will be entered into drawings for door prizes. Door prizes include leashes, collars, car washes, boutique jewelry, gift certificates and an Orca cooler.

Sponsors include Beauty Ovations, Ramona’s Beauty Boutique, Phillip Fikes Farmers Insurance, Shoe Sanctuary, Red Lobster, Willow Tree, Absolute Fitness, Advanced Imaging, Exchange Bank, Tyler Elliott Allstate, Little Brown Cow, Wills Creek Winery, Dr. Roger Allen, Professional Opticians, No. 1 China Buffet, Super Bee Pharmacy, Kerri Collins, Mater’s Pizza, Joey Statum, Designer Dog Spa and Grooming, Cotheran’s Bakery, Petco, Sun Loan, Rainbow City Pet Clinic, Jeff Overstreet, Advance Disposal, Big Wills Outfitters, Alabama Teachers Credit Union, Free Style Graphics, Chick-fil-A, Childress Heating and Cooling, McClesky’s, Fringe and Frills, Terrapin Creek and Martin’s Family Clothing.
