Etowah Middle holds annual SOAR celebration

Etowah Middle School held its annual SOAR (Seeing Our Actions Rewarded) celebration on Friday, Dec. 19 with $2,500 in gifts and prizes given away to students. Students who maintained an 80 or higher SOAR (conduct) average were able to attend the event.

Students played games and competed with teachers for a variety of prizes. Toward the end of the event, students’ names were randomly drawn for items such as tee shirts, gift cards from local restaurants, movie passes, games, a Blu-ray player, bicycles, a flat screen TV, headphones, a tablet computer, a laptop computer, an iPad and many other items.

Every student was able to leave the celebration with something to commemorate his or her accomplishments. Etowah Middle students look forward to this celebration each and every year, which was evident this year with approximately 378 eligible students attending and 162 students having a perfect 100 SOAR average.

The school works hard throughout the year to raise ample funds to host this exciting event, and wishes to thank all of the generous teachers in the system that donated items from their clubs or sports teams or that gave personal donations for the event. Etowah Middle also wishes to thank Academy Sports and Outdoors for bicycles; Johnson’s Giant Foods, Los Arcos Mexican Restaurant and Flip Side Cafe for gift certificates; Exchange Bank for a $100 donation and Alabama Teacher’s Credit Union for its donation of 10 movie passes, two Books-A-Million gift cards as well as tee shirts.

Etowah Middle School appreciates the community for helping make this year’s event a success and the students for maintaining positive behavior daily throughout the school year.
