According to Lee Ozmint, if there’s one team that can beat Piedmont right now, it’s fellow Class 3A, Region 5 rival Saks.

“This is one of the best teams we’ve ever played – ever,” the Glencoe High football coach said. “They have phenomenal athletes.

“Their quarterback, Quindarious Smith, reminds me of (former Pinson Valley athlete) Desmond Jennings, who is now in the big leagues.”

Jennings is an outfielder for the MLB Tampa Bay Rays.

“Not only Smith, but the running backs, they’ve got as many tailbacks as Piedmont has,” Ozmint said. “Every time they score, it’s a different guy.”

Meanwhile, Ozmint hopes his Yellow Jackets play up to the level needed to be competitive.

“If we do the things that we practice every day, we’ll compete,” he said. “But we won’t have a prayer if we don’t.”

Last week against Hokes Bluff, Dylan Stone amassed 288 combined rushing and passing yards, running 13 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns and completing 12-of-8 passes for 108 yards and two scores.

Thomas Ozmint rushed for 176 yard and two touchdowns on 28 carries.

Houston Word led in tackles with 12, followed by Mason Brown with 10 and Andrew Willis and Chance Duncan with eight each.
