The class 3A #5 Glencoe Yellow Jackets (4-0,3-0) defeated
the #3 Piedmont Bulldogs 31-28 Friday night at Wilson Darnell Stadium after
falling short the previous 6 tries head coach Lee Ozmint had this to say “We
played our hearts out tonight through all adversity and any challenge that was
placed in front of us tonight”. Ozmint went on to add, “Our offense helped our
defense out tonight and vice versa”. Despite a couple of miscues the Glencoe
defense only allowed Piedmont to score 14 points off.

The game started off pretty much the way everyone thought an
all out slugfest as The Jackets drove the ball down the field in the first
quarter going 6 plays for 41 yards ending with Dylan Stone rushing three
straight times for a Touchdown giving the Jackets a 7-0 lead with 9:10 to go in
the quarter.

Piedmont would answer back with a 6 play 71 yard drive of
their own eating up only 3:32 off the clock with the highlights of the drive being
Tom Radriqueaz scampering for 20 yards on two runs and a 37 yard strike from
Tyler Lusk to Mike Bennefield with 5:07 reaming to tie the game.

The Bulldog defense was looking to make a play and they did
to begin the second quarter they did just that as Michael Hayes intercepted
Dylan Stone’s pass attempt, the following play a 41 yard reverse to C.J Savage
gave Piedmont the 14-7 edge with10: 58 to go in the half.

The Yellow Jacket offense responded quickly with a four-play
61-yard drive taking only 1:35 off the clock, Glencoe wasn’t done with 5:11 to
go in the half the combination of Frick and Frack gave Glencoe a 21-14 lead
going into the half.

Piedmont needed to score and score they did as they drove
down the field in 8 plays and 67 yards the Bulldogs tied the game, and on the
ensuing Glencoe drive a questionable fumble inside the five yard line was
recovered by the defense and in one play the Bulldogs took the lead behind a 98
yard score from Taylor Lusk to CJ Savage giving the Bulldogs their final lead
of the game.

The Jackets were down, but certainly not out with 5 minutes
to go before the fourth quarter Frick and Frack came through once more with
Thomas Ozmint scoring the tying Touchdown with 1:49 remaining in the third
quarter.

The quarter was controlled by Glencoe as they drained most
of the clock and with 3:11 to go in the game Joseph Bright made the game
winning field goal he had this to say after the game “I just approached it like
an Extra Point I went through my routine and made the kick I knew it would go
through because I have a great coaching staff and teammates who believe in me”.

Glencoe was lead offensively by Dylan Stone with 172 on the
Ground and 32 through the air and two TD’s

Thomas Ozmint added 193 rushing yards of his own with Two
TD’s

Mason Brown lead defensively with 11 tackles and a Forced
Fumble

Piedmont was lead offensively by Tyler Lusk who went 16 for
27 with 310 and three touchdowns
