Glencoe, Westbrook open season with tri-match sweeps

The Glencoe High volleyball team kicked off the season with a tri-match sweep over Gadsden City and Hokes Bluff on Thursday, Aug. 22 at GCHS.
The Lady Yellow Jacket defeated Hokes Bluff, 25-15, 26-28, 15-8, and beat Gadsden City, 25-14, 25-15. The Lady Eagles beat Gadsden City by a score of 25-13, 22-25, 15-8.
For Glencoe against Hokes Bluff, Avery Barkley had 17 assists, three aces and three sigs; Ali Jo Amis had five kills, four digs and two blocks; Evelyn Nowak (pictured above at right)) had 11 kills and three digs; Mia Talbot had nine digs and six kills; Kinlee Montgomery had six assists; Kaelyn Hollis had six digs; Ashlyn Stone had five digs; and Sadie Waldrop had four digs.
Against Gadsden City, Barkley had 15 assists; Hollis had 14 digs; Amos had seven kills, three aces and three sigs; Nowak had five kills and three digs; Talbot had eight kills and three digs; Waldrop had three kills and three digs; Stone had four digs; and Montgomery had three assists.
For Hokes Bluff for the tri-match, Addison Simmons had 11 kills, followed by Sophia Jackson with nine, Mazely Ball with eight and Chloe Dodd and Makenna Bennich with seven each.
Mary Davenport distributed 35 assists, while Jackson served up eight aces.
Westbrook Christian opened the season with a tri-match sweep over Sardis (25-13, 25-23) and Oneonta (25-12), 25-15) on Thursday, Aug. 22 in Rainbow City. For the Lady Warriors, Marley Cox had 15 kills, 14 digs and two aces; Raylee Neal had 33 assists and five digs; Elliosn Stewart had 12 kills, seven aces and seven digs; Kylee Wyatt had 12 digs; Reid Elam had four digs; and Landri Lipscomb had three kills.
After falling to Westbrook, Sardis defeated Oneonta, 25-13, 26-16. For the Lady Lions for the tri-match, Jordyn Knight ahd 17 digs and nine kills, Vada Wilmore had seven kills, two aces, two digs and two blocks; Emersyn Greer had 16 assists; Shelby Abernathy had four kills; and Malee Ellis and Judsyn Greer each had nine digs.
