Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) staff will be available Tuesday, January 27 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Gadsden State-Cherokee to meet with veterans who are interested in receiving services to increase their success in college enrollment and graduation. Veterans Upward Bound is a TRiO program funded completely by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

This pre-college program is designed to motivate and assist veterans in developing academic and other requisite skills necessary to successfully enroll and complete a postsecondary education program. There are only 49 VUB programs in the U.S. and the Gadsden State VUB program is one of only two in the state of Alabama.

Gadsden State Cherokee Director Luanne Hayes is hosting the VUB recruitment day for veterans in Cherokee County who are interested in learning more about program eligibility, benefits, and services. A VUB representative will be present with program applications and brochures to assist veterans with the enrollment process.  For questions or more information, contact Jill Heishman, VUB academic coordinator/recruiter, at 256-549-8328 or jheishman@gadsdenstate.edu.

All veterans should bring a copy of their DD214. Program eligibility is open to all qualified veterans interested in attending any college or university and not limited to enrollment at Gadsden State.
