Lady Blue Devils win Piedmont tournament

The Etowah High softball team went 5-0 to win the Piedmont
Invitational Tournament on Saturday (Apr. 2).

The Lady Blue Devils (20-8, 4-0) defeated Saks, 6-0;
Clay-Central, 8-0; Fort Payne, 7-6; and Piedmont, 8-0 before beating Class 4A
No. 5 Cleburne County, 3-2, in the championship game.

Against Saks for Etowah, Madison Grant went 3-for-3 with two
doubles, an RBI and three runs scored; Krislyn Farmer went 2-for-3 with two
doubles and an RBI; Emma Jones had two hits and an RBI; Alyssa Howard had a
hit, an RBI and a run scored; and Taylor Bush and Bree Vasser each had a hit
and a run scored.

In six innings, winning pitcher Katie Parrish struck out
eight while allowing four hits and no walks.

Against Clay-Central, Grant went 3-for-4 with a home run,
two RBI and a run scored; Taylor Bush went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs
scored; Jones went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI; Savannah Waddell went
2-for-2; and Howard and Elizabeth Lopez each had a hit and a run scored.

Grant fanned 12 while allowing two hits and one walk to earn
the win.

Against Fort Payne, Jones went 2-for-2 with a home run,
three RBI and two runs scored; Vasser had a triple and a run scored; Grant had
a double, an RBI and a run scored; and farmer had a double and a run scored.

In five innings, Grant scattered five hits, three earned
runs and three walks along with four strikeouts.

Against Piedmont, Jones went 2-for-3 with a double, three
RBI and a run scored; Howard had a home run, three RBI and a run scored; Grant
had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored; and Taylor Bush had a hit and two runs
scored.

Grant notched the win in five innings, fanning seven while
allowing three hits and two walks.

Against Cleburne County, Howard went 2-for-3 with two RBI;
Jones went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; and Farmer had a triple
and a run scored.

In seven innings, Grant struck out seven while scattering
nine hits, two earned runs and three walks.
